1001 Books to Read Before You Die

Courtesy of 3M, here is Peter Boxall's List of 1001 Books to Read Before You Die. I don't agree with all of them, and feel that some great ones have been missed, but that's not the point of this post. ;)

Seeing the list, and loving lists like I do, I've bolded the books I've read and italicized the ones I own but just haven't gotten around to reading yet. It was interesting to me, at least. And it's certainly easy to see where my reading interest lies, century-wise.

Thus far, I've read 112 of these, though I keep seeing ones on this list that I didn't notice before so it might be edited further.

Agh. I think I lost my comment. Sigh. Okay, my grand total was 83! I won't go into again how I hated some of the books I did read, couldn't finish others on the list (i.e., The Unconsoled, Auto da Fe).

I'd like to see the actual book, so I could see what kind of guidelines he has used to choose these. I've read some on this list that I could go another lifetime without reading.

Like you, Deb, I started some but couldn't finish them. . . Really makes me curious.

If you're interested, there's a brand new version of Arukiyomi's 1001 books spreadsheet. Along with some cool new features, there are lists of both the revised 1001 books and those that were removed from the 2008 edition.

You may find that you haven't now read as many as you thought.

To get your free copy of the new spreadsheet, head over to Arukiyomi's blog.

Happy reading!
